"Each of the main buildings is a project in its own right"
As Mobiliar’s client representative, Lukas Oberholzer is heavily involved in the renovation of the Appenberg. In this interview, he discusses the challenges involved in redesigning the hotel village and what makes his job so appealing.
Lukas, you're in charge of the renovation on Mobiliar's side. What specific tasks does that entail?
Lukas Oberholzer: My role is to assemble and lead the best possible team to successfully carry out the Appenberg project. This team consists of planners, specialists, and representatives from all the companies involved in the renovation. In my role as Real Estate Project Manager, I represent Mobiliar’s interests as the client’s representative in dealings with all contractors. Together with the Appenberg core team, we define and are responsible for the project goals and specifications regarding quality, costs, and deadlines. The core team provides information to the contractors and reports to the steering committee and the Appenberg Board of Directors.
Most of the individual buildings were already dismantled at their original locations and rebuilt on the Appenberg. To what extent does this complicate the renovation?
Not at all. The challenge, rather, is that each house is unique in terms of architecture, facades, floor plans, and condition. Each of the seven main buildings therefore represents a specific project in its own right.
What do you find most appealing about this project?
It is a great honor for me to help add the chapter on “comprehensive renovation” to the Appenberg’s long history. Tackling and achieving this very challenging goal with a large and highly capable team is incredibly exciting and motivating for me. The Hotel Appenberg is a labor of love for me—I give it my all every day.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with numerous partners. What characterizes this collaboration?
Respect, trust, transparency—everyone is pulling together for Appenberg!
