"A place that helps us move forward"
Philipp Mischler, who is currently Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at Appenberg, played a key role in getting the renovation project off the ground. In this interview, he explains what he, as Head of Market Management at Mobiliar, observed in the hotel village—and why enthusiasm alone is not enough to drive a renovation project forward.
Philipp, it’s actually thanks to you that the Appenberg project is even happening. How did you first hear about the hotel village above Zäziwil?
Philipp Mischler: I first got to know the Appenberg as a guest. In the past, I’ve had the opportunity to attend several seminars and meetings there. It was immediately clear to me that the Appenberg is something special.
What convinced you of its potential?
All it took was a glance at the guests’ faces: I saw a deep sense of contentment across the board. For me, that was proof enough of what a wonderful place Appenberg is and how well it’s received by visitors.
What did it take to turn your enthusiasm for the Appenberg into a renovation project of this scale?
My enthusiasm for the Appenberg alone would never have been enough to even consider such a project. The shared vision was—and still is—the decisive factor. We all want to create something magnificent on the Appenberg. The conviction, support, and passion of many colleagues at Mobiliar are not only the driving forces behind the project, but are absolutely essential for us to even consider making it a reality.
What does the Appenberg mean to you personally?
Appenberg is a place that helps us grow. In the end, however, it’s always the people who make a place unique—and that’s true of Appenberg as well.
What do you hope to see in the Appenberg of the future?
That it will continue to bring people together in the future—whether families or groups staying here on a trip together, enjoying a meal at the restaurant, and having a good time together. Or teams seeking inspiration from the unique surroundings for seminars and workshops. And even individuals who may not yet form a cohesive group—and who, for that very reason, find their way to the Appenberg to become a team, whether professionally or personally.
What do you find most appealing about this project?
I really appreciate being able to be part of this special project and helping to create something that will last.
The project is being carried out in collaboration with numerous partners. What characterizes this collaboration?
All parties involved are enthusiastic about the project. Our collaboration is therefore marked by great joy and deep conviction. We all greatly appreciate the opportunity to create something special together.
